Highly underrated movie. Hans Zimmer composed one of the best soundtracks of all time. Ken Watanabe was incredible as well. Thanks for doing it justice with this review.

Thanks and yeah it definitely is, I think this indeed is one of the best ost of all times. Watanabe was awesome, as to this review this is part 1. I'm planning to analyse the other characters and themes of the film over the next few weeks. Especially Watanabe's character of Katsumoto X)

Couldn't agree more. This was by far his best performance.

Agree 100%, and it is proof he can be a great actor. I wish he'd make another movie like it.

One hell of a movie. Definitely my favorite Cruise performance. Shame he doesn't do more like this. The early 2000s really were the time for Epic "Historical" films.

They were weren't they?! And yeah, definitely mine as well, wish he did more movies like this and that he would do more psychological style like this. As this movie was freaking deep!

i love this movie man. The acting is great but what really gets me is the movement behind the history. This was not only showing the last stand of the samurai, but the view of Japans government

Oui, very true, though I must ask do you mean the government of back then in the 1800s or of to-day/2003?

I’ve never seen the movie, now you’ve piqued my interest. Sunday is hangout day for my husband and I. We’ll watch it, and I’ll keep in mind your post. Thank you! 🍿 🎭

It's very deep, it's about a broken, drunken man shattered by modernity, going to Japan to seemingly break it too, but instead he is saved by it. Honestly, it's a great movie about the soul of nations and men, and about how both are worth saving.

It was one of my father's favourites, and I absolutely love it.

I really look forward to watching it later today! Thank you again! 👍👍👍

Pourquoi? Is it the fact that Algren is based off of Jules Brunet and thus should have been French?
