Shout-out to Thalia The Muse of Comedy 🎭 for inspiring this article, as discussing things with her got me thinking about the Muses in this movie (who are a riot) and from there I got to thinking about the best song of this movie.
“he feels like there’s somewhere else calling to him, that is his rightful place, but he doesn’t know how to explain it.”
I think it’s more than that. The beauty of the story and the reason we can all relate (especially younger teenagers and children) is not because he’s trying to find his home among the Gods so much as it is someone wanting to fit in.
We all desire a place where we fit, where there are others like us, where we feel we belong. That’s something all adolescents go through. Something many adults struggle with as well. And, though he thinks he’s found it in the end, what he has really discovered is self acceptance. He finally accepts himself for who he is. And he realizes, with Meg’s help, that there are those who love him no matter what. That it’s not about where he fits, but where he wants to be.
One of my favorite Disney films (and the music is fantastic). If you haven’t already and you like this one, you should check out “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”
It is a great tale for exactly those reasons as you said, self-acceptance is something so many struggle with. Ironically, it is why I think so many have become lost and fallen away from their paths in recent decades. Hopefully this song and many others like it might someday act as a light and guide them back.
I love this movie, and this song, even as a girl, i so totally relate too. And yeah, Hercules was my first 'real' cartoon crush lol. (the real first was when i was 6, it was Thor from Super Hero Squad. 🤦♀️)
Sometimes I inspire and I don't realize it
Curse of being a Muse right ;)
AMPAS didn't ignore it- it got a Best Original Song Oscar nomination, and those other ones didn't.
Ah ok

Good choices for cartoon crushes lol
Excellent analysis! It is a great song, though I confess that I've forgotten all about it.
Hahahaha I get that, it's why it was included in the article. And thanks means a lot Bill!
Great song. Absolute banger!
That it was!
