This was worth a read, if only to learn that Lord of the Rings is also beloved by Japanese readers.

Glad you think so, yeah I was able to have a few conversations about Tolkien out there.

I understand the desire to open a bookshop. I've always wanted to work in a library. Just to be in a repository of the written word would be so cool. Plus, I could read at work.

Having a bookstore would be a close second.

Good luck on your dream of having a book store.

I had to look up what Bande-Disinees were. You could have said comics. LOL.

Are french comic books different than American comics?

You're right I should have said comics, that was a mistake and one written on instinct rather than actual forethought so I owe a MASSIVE apology bro.

American comics in my experience mostly are about superheroes, BD are about history, scifi & some fantasy and have much better art (no offence). I like BDs better, but I think Americans have an instinct for storytelling on par with the French. I don't know, I'd like to sell both. Because when you look at modern Conan comics a lot of them rock, the Dark Horse Conan run is basically how a BD sometimes looks and reads (I like the Conan run better than most BD runs tbh). It's hard to describe the difference, there's just a feel to BDs that's quite different in my experience, as they draw more inspiration from the likes of Alex Dumas' literature from the 19th century.

As to the bookstore it's just some weird instinct but it'll be years before I could open one. Most folks say it'll take 50k to 65k I'm guessing it'll take 200k to open it.

No offense taken. American Comics are mostly about heroes. It’s always good to distinguish between Comics and stories.

Isn’t one the BD’s, Valerian?

America needs a mythology bad. Instead, what we get are superheroes and they get rewritten every five years or so.

Please continue sharing these Japanese adventures! I’ve been growing fond of Japan over the last year and love to hear about it. I hope to visit someday!

I am so glad that you had such a wonderful experience with Haruna-san (I hope he does write a fantasy world!) and discovering a new dream! As someone who has lost most of my old dreams, I imagine that must have been a most magical moment. I hope that you will be able to fulfill it, for there are few things better than a good bookstore. I look forward to seeing the beginning of your Samurai novel!

Now I am considering a fantasy world inspired by France, such as you mentioned, after wondering what new story I will start this fall. I don’t know that I could do it well, but I intend to study the language and culture this summer in earnest, so perhaps I can begin crafting such a world.

Hahaha, I hope to have a new book out which will be a French fantasy as well so do go ahead, I encourage you.

Japan is an amazing country and culture, and I’ll keep writing about it and it’s literature and history, and yes that dream moment was very magical indeed. Put a fire in my breast.
