Also, I attempted to Subscribe, however Substack interfered and said my card is not valid for that type of transaction which is kinda strange considering I have a monthly payment with other Stacks on here🥴🥴 So just in case U don't get many takers for your phenomenal subscription offer, it might have more to do with Substacks platform having more than just a few glitches going on.
I’ve an idea; here’s my BMAC account and I’ll give you a comp. Does that work Reina? Numedides has had the same problem. Or if you prefer Kofi you could pay us directly there. I’ll message you the Discord Link that I like to provide all paying subscribers.
Menelaus took almost as long as Odysseus to get home. This is why Orestes had to avenge Agamemnon, Menelaus arrived back too late. He got stuck in Egypt and not until catching Proteus did he find out how to escape.
Damn, made one major mistake, I knew it took him awhile (as in a few years) but had forgotten how long it took him. For some reason I got something like 5 years or something in my head for how long it took.
Okay, on the next Odyssey essay definitely gonna need to mention that detail. Merci Mary!
Excellent Brothers! The idea of vainglory in Greek heroes adds depth to their character. Odysseus, like Iason and Herakles, often struggled with hubris. These flaws serve as cautionary tales about pride in the face of challenges, and highlights to the reader the complexity of heroism.
Very true, and I always liked the idea of vainglorious, proud and flawed heroes who grow humbler and wiser with each as it seems like they took us on journeys alongside them that was also internal in nature.
Thank you for a wonderful essay! At one time, I was extremely close to a man who was vainglorious. Unfortunately he’s not learned from his humbling experiences. Watching him as he ages is disheartening to me because he should be wiser from the challenges he faced. He needs to read your essay! Lol! Have a beautiful week!
Have a better week madame, and maybe he does you can feel free to share my stack with him haha.
He must have truly been proud if he chased you away Charlotte, I’m very sorry to hear about his pride being his undoing. It’s sad seeing that happen, I knew a few people like that, it is very disheartening. I don’t know if I’m growing wiser but hope I will continue to do so. Seems an easy vice to fall into, maybe it’s a matter of constant prayer, humbling and service to others is the cure?
Anyways, I hope to get back to work now to conclude two stories. I really want to finish Sword of the Western Seas that I might start on a sequel, and maybe stick a character into Darkspire Part 2 named after yourself, just for fun if you want. I promise to make her humble and a delight to read of course.
A grand essay mon ami! I loved the part about Penelope the most, perhaps. Not that Odysseus is a dull character, but so few people actually write about his wife to put most of his tribulation in perspective.
Really? I’d assume she’d fascinate them a lot more given I remember being a kid and how obsessed a lot of women including academics were in the early 2000s.
True, only hope that mine measure up in some fashion. This essay though has cost me 3 subs already, but I might just soldier on through and write out analysis essays on the book so as to present just for you more commentary on the delightful, beautiful Penelope.
Merci, I know I had to look through the wikipedia, and go by memory to remember some of the finer points. I’m lucky that I was obsessed with this story as a kid.
I’ve plans to do an annotation of it, and to do a read-through of the French edition, might just do a French annotations for my French newsletter.

That very well maybe but they did not write the things you did :)

A great review, especially for those of us who do not remember or know The Odyssey well.
