...40K is British, not German, and Germany absolutely does not lag behind France, Japan, or the Anglosphere in terms of literary accomplishments. I would probably put Germany second right after English, and that's mostly because English has become a major world language while German is mostly a language in Europe. Considering China has censorship, German probably has the second-largest amount of literature in the world after English, and the German classics like Goethe, Schiller, Kafka, Hermann Hesse, etc. way outnumber French classics and Japanese isn't even close. I'm also not sure why "people are allowed to put female heads on Custodes if they want now but the actual models still only come with male heads" means Warhammer is ruined, the game and the models are literally exactly the same and there have been bigger lore changes before, like making Necrons into the undead instead of eldritch horrors, making Genestealers into Tyranids, and making Leman Russ a primarch instead of just a random guy, making space marines selected before puberty and raised as super-soldiers instead of being convicts, adding dark space marines as the main enemies instead of orks, etc. If people really hate this lore change they'll roll it back, 40K lore has never been all that consistent and if people just hate it and it causes them to lose sales it won't stick, and if it doesn't cause them to lose sales and people don't hate it then a vocal minority shouldn't be telling everyone what to do, only time will tell how that will go.

Fair enough about Goethe, Schiller and Hesse, though I will cling to my preference for French, Japanese & English lit and view that they've produced far more interesting literature (to each their own, but thanks for defending them Michaela I may have been overly harsh in my condemnation), as to 40k being British my ignorance showed where Warhammer is concerned so fair enough I stand corrected.

And you're very right about how time will tell which direction things will go in.

If there's one thing that's stayed the same in fandom, it's that politics keep rearing its ugly head there, when it should have no place at all.

Agreed, I don't care for any politics of any kind in them, it was ugly in the 90s when Christian mothers interferred, and now that the left is doing it, it isn't anymore fun. A shame, as from the late 90s up until 2012 thereabouts it was a good time without too much politics in art.

I’ve seen this Hard R thing. Why was it controversial?

I'm not sure, it's supposed to be offensive, or so Square said but I don't know why.

They can make all the retarded fanfic they want, and publish it through the skinsuit of the company they infested, but in the end the culture decides whether it endures. It's only as meaningful as you make it.

This might just be an example of how about a third of the turbo soy takes actually come out based.

Case in point: Warhammer is a complete shithole, and everyone there is gonna have a bad time. Making the ones that get mauled by various brutal weapons absolutely anything other than Straight White Males is not the win they think it is.

Ahh okay, and fair point I honestly hadn't looked at it from that pov, now that I think about it, that makes it funnier.

Other good illustrations:

Cyberpunk (imagine if that shit were blamed on Fucking White Males).

T(y)ranny (the world is ninety percent female and so completely dysfunctional that even the villain using words as magic spells can't take over a tiny section of the world because the retards would rather constantly fight each other).

There was another major one but I can't remember what it was, and there are quite a few smaller ones where I wouldn't want anyone I care about going through such a dystopia, and all of them, even the Fucking White Males are so unlikable they have it coming.

Ah okay, I'm not familiar with most sci-fi or cyberpunk stories.

Both of those are lamestream video games, and there are still those claiming the first one is based lol.

I gotcha, ugh the state of modern gaming is a nightmare. It is why I think given the tools available, maybe more indie studios should go back to basics, maybe do as many Japanese have done and make use of programs like RPG Maker and such to make 2d games like those found in the 90s.

I have a 7k gaming PC that hasn't been turned on or looked at in years and might not even work anymore, but I don't care because stuff at least a decade old is far more compelling. Same with ROMhacks of near 30 year old games, and especially true of LitRPG where I can design systems without being constrained by code and more restrained by the complete subversion of the industry.

And the indie scene might seem better but it isn't, the whole five guys thing wasn't just about some shitty walking simulator, they have their own little indie clique going and it is apparently financed by Blizzard and has enough power they can yank the chain of those that aren't even part of it all because indie games will be irrelevant or shut down if they start seething (though rarely one breaks through like not Pokemon or not Starship Troopers).

The streamers are also owned, I know all this because the total subversion of gaming is what redpilled me.

...So we need to turn Adeptus Sororitas into Straight White Males since they're basically canon fodder, and ban females from the Imperial Guard, but Thousand Sons and Death Guard as females are fine since they just come back to life once they die?

If they actually thought about what they were doing instead of invading, then subverting and destroying men's spaces yes.

I never got into Warhammer either, but I know what it's like to see one's beloved franchise go down in flames. I've seen it multiple times with Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Fallout under Bethesda.

I get that, I mostly weirdly shrugged my shoulders and carried on, at this point it is so ordinary that it is hard to get worked up over it. Why get angry when that's what the companies want, why when you can really stick it to them by supporting indies and create your own works. That's what gets them really heated.

Agreed. I'm working on my own world set in a Post-Collapse America. The first story kind of a prologue about how things got there. My second story will be in another part of the country. I intend it to be kind of like anthologies that I hope can have them come together. Or it will crash and burn who knows. But I'm trying. Peace

P.S. My second anthology will take some inspiration from the Fallout Series.

Ahh okay, I'm not into Sci-Fi or Post-Collapse stuff but highly encourage you to write what you love and keep toiling at your anthologies, maybe you could post some of the stories here or ideas hereon Substack and tag Andrew Smith & Maribel and the rest of the Sci-Friday crew?
