You kind of already did. (Sorry for not writing in French, it's 6am here and my translation brain isn't functioning yet.) In this chapter, you mixed an occassional quotation mark in with your hyphens. I wasn't aware of how the French wrote novels. It's an interesting difference.
Don’t apologize, you’ve done a fantastic job with the French, and the quotation marks are used for flashbacking, and sparingly.
Comment in French when you’re not exhausted and your translation brain is working. Je comprends, nothing to apologize for. I’ve just been happy to have you reading my French project. My hope is to show my 2 most recent project on Tuesdays; 3 Mousquetaire meets LOTR novel and of course Herakles.
The French write novels pretty oddly. I won’t lie I like the ““ better. I originally wrote the novel with those, but to get this monster of a novel published I need to put it through Merci App to fix up my terrible grammar (I wrote it when I was 26). My current novel (which the first chapter will drop on Tuesday just for you mon ami) has better grammar. But as I want to publish these things through the only means available in Quebec (trad), means having to format it according to their specifications.
Sad thing is, the book will need to be completely reformatted back for English readers.
The French state of novel-publishing is so damn odd, frustrating and nightmarish. Some are pushing for the ““, but the trouble is they’re mixed up with those who are pushing more globalism and English into French. So if you want to be traditional you have to stick with the blasted - trait d’union or the hideous « » (which I’m not as comfortable with but if you prefer Joseph, I could use instead).
