We actually studied it one semester in college, and it's fascinating how specifically rooted the novel is in Anglo Saxon heroic tradition. I even wrote an essay comparing Dracula to Beowulf.
And what’s interesting is that Stoker was Irish, and so it is also rooted in apparently Irish Folklore his mother passed down to him.
Yet Beowulf is an awesome and very good comparison now that I think about it. Any chance you could dig that essay up and post it hereon Substack? I’d love to read it!
Same, I’m glad you liked it M. Boyle, I loved writing this one.
I’m trying to write a ‘Dracula: Commentaries’. I’ve plans to release on Sunday a Table of Contents of my Dracula essays (most of them character analysis ones).
But I’m finding that reading the text just makes me want to analyze it and present my findings and try to show people how intelligent and magnificent Stoker’s work truly was.
I’m glad to hear it, I love writing it though I must admit that it requires hours of reading and pondering as I write. This is perhaps the most time consuming set of articles we’ve got.
Here it is, took me a few minutes. I really like it for the lit analysis though that's only a side-part of his video which is an argument against the modern state of Britain (like most of his stuff); https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8xdLzhrZtM&t=1s
Excellent article on my favorite horror novel!

I'll have to try and find it. I referenced parts of it in my article on Jonathan Harker and took some points from it.
Sounds cool! That article sounds so freaking cool!
Thorough piece! I respect the storytellers who continue to inspire future generations.
