A Fallen Genre - How Fantasy (Mythic) Fiction lost its way & The Fight to Restore Heroism to the Most Important Genre Ever
And Valour
Remember folks; subscription is only 8$, and every penny goes to publishing Brotherhood of the Gemstone (which is being revised, the revised first chapter will be posted today, after I’ve reached 70-100 pages in my revisions/edits). I’ve not touched the book in almost 2 years, and so it is in dire need of these ‘touch-ups’, but upgrading your subscription for the year. Thanks it is very much appreciated.
To say that the genre has lost its way is an understatement. It has come a long way since the days of Lord Dunsany, this much cannot be denied. Where Dunsany had imagined a genre full of love and faerie-stories, as did Howard, Tolkien and Disney, the likes of recent mainstream (and some indie) writers have ultimately butchered it.
This was really hammered home by an image that began circulating the indie-writing community over on twitter.
Naturally it drew considerable criticism and complaints from a great many writers who felt irritated by how fiction had twisted and become a perverted shadow of what once was.
